Terry Devlin hit 2 long range strikes either side of a Colby Bishop spot kick to send the Blues on their way to a first midweek league win on the road since November 2023.
The last time Portsmouth Football Club achieved such feat was on Tuesday the 28th of November, 2023, when they defeated Burton Albion 2-0 thanks to goals from Colby Bishop and Alex Robertson at the Pirelli Stadium.
Despite Charlton sub Jayden Fevrier pulling a goal back, Devlin ultimately added the inaugural sucker-punch on Nathan Jones’ side with a strike fit for a goal of the season award.
The 3 points now take John Mousinho’s side up to 19th in the Championship, and a firm four points above Leicester City in 22nd, with the Blues still having to play Ipswich Town at Fratton Park.
There were two changes to the side that lost 1-0 at home to Sheffield United last Saturday.
Marlon Pack captained the squad on his return to the XI, while Santos loanee Gustavo Caballero made his first start.
Charlton had chances to take the lead early on through Harry Clarke, who was denied by Nicolas Schmid, and then Sonny Carey, whose effort went wide.
Pompey then took the lead via Devlin, when Ebou Adams’ coordinated ball found the Northern Ireland international, who thumbed the ball under the legs of Thomas Kaminski to make it 1-0, 22 minutes gone.
Referee Leigh Doughty then pointed to the spot when Caballero’s attempted cross in the 18-yard box struck the hand of Amari’i Bell.
Up stepped Bishop, who coolly placed the ball down the middle of Kaminski’s net to make it 2-0 and score his first league goal since August 2025.
HALF-TIME: Charlton Athletic 0-2 Portsmouth
Early on in the second 45, Portsmouth had another penalty shout when Adams collided with Kayne Ramsay, but the appeal was dismissed.
Devlin then struck gold again moments later with a peach of a strike from 25+ yards out, when he rocketed the ball at goal, which hit the post and fell into the net to make it 3-0.
Addicks' sub Fevrier scored a consolation on his debut on 64 minutes, but a comeback was simply not mounted from that point on.
Millenic Alli was not far-off from making it 4-1, but the Luton loanee’s effort hit the side netting.
Charlton sub Tyreece Campbell nearly clawed another goal back, but his shot at goal went over Schmid’s crossbar.
There was then a third and final penalty shout of the night, when Alli hit the ball at Ramsay when he was on the ground, but the Blues’ appeals of handball were denied.
