Pompey winger Josh Murphy has agreed a contract extension which is set to run until 2028.
The 30-year-old former Norwich City and Cardiff City man joined the club as a free agent last summer after seeing out his contract at Oxford United.
Murphy scored both goals for The U's in a 2-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers in the 2024 League One Play-Off Final, earning him plenty of admirers from various Championship clubs.
It was Portsmouth who won the race though and he proceeded to make 42 league appearances in 2024/25, racking up 7 goals and 14 assists in the Championship.
Toward the latter stages of the recent summer transfer window, it was speculated that Murphy was wanted by top-end Championship clubs with Leicester City reportedly interested in luring him away from the South Coast, however no move materialised.
His previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2027 so an extra year has been added on to what Express FM believes to be an improved contract both in terms of length and financial offerings.
Speaking with local press at the club's training facility, head coach John Mousinho said: "Keeping hold of him in the window was really important for us.
"It was really important that we kept hold of his services and I think yeah, thoroughly deserved a new contract, it gives us hopefully a bit more security and definitely an extra year with Josh."
