Blues Recruit Kaide Gordon On Loan From Liverpool

20-year-old attacking midfielder/winger Kaide Gordon will represent Pompey until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Gordon had been sent out on loan to fellow Championship outfit Norwich City at the start of the season but was named in just 1 starting XI, making his other 9 appearances for The Canaries off the bench.

During his short stint at Carrow Road, he logged 177 minutes of league football and scored once in a 4-0 victory over Hull City on the 5th of October.

The new Pompey loanee was not included in Johannes Hoff Thorup's matchday squad for the trip to Fratton Park in December, which ended goalless.

Gordon came through the youth ranks at Derby County but featured just once for The Rams before signing for Liverpool in 2021 at the age of 16. He has since registered 7 senior appearances for the Merseyside club, 2 of those in the Premier League under former boss Jurgen Klopp.

He netted his first goal in senior football for The Reds in an FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town in 2022 and, in doing so, became the youngest player to score for the club in that competition.

Since the arrival of Arne Slot in the summer, the attacker has been attempting to kickstart his career away from Anfield.

Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho told club media: "We're delighted to welcome Kaide to the club and would like to thank Liverpool for loaning him to us.

"He arrives having already gained experience of this level from his time at Norwich and really boosts our attacking options.

"Kaide is a talented young player with bags of potential and I'm excited to see what he can do in a Pompey shirt during the rest of this season."

Gordon links up with former Liverpool teammate Harvey Blair at Fratton Park and becomes the club's 6th active loanee alongside Rob Atkinson (Bristol City), Freddie Potts (West Ham United), Isaac Hayden (Newcastle United), Adil Aouchiche (Sunderland) and Mark O'Mahony (Brighton & Hove Albion).

Per EFL rules, only 5 loan players are eligible to feature in a matchday squad of 20, therefore Mousinho will be forced to leave 1 out of his selection for each game.

The Liverpool prospect becomes the Blues' 8th January transfer window signing - You can find more information about the other 7 here.
