Behind the glamour of fashion, there are always deeper stories waiting to be told.
In the latest episode of The MarshyCast, I sat down with director Alice Winocour to talk about her new film Couture, featuring Angelina Jolie and available now on Digital HD.
Set against the backdrop of Paris Fashion Week, the film follows the lives of three women navigating ambition, pressure, relationships and reinvention. But as Alice explained, beneath the stylish setting lies something much more personal.
One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation was hearing how autobiographical the project is for her. While the world of high fashion may feel glamorous from the outside, Alice uses it as a lens to explore identity, belonging and the emotional complexities many people experience.
We also discussed the level of research that went into authentically portraying the fashion industry. Capturing that world convincingly meant understanding both its beauty and its intensity.
Then there’s the cast. From internationally recognised stars to first-time performers, the film blends experience and fresh energy. Naturally, we also spoke about working with Angelina Jolie, whose presence brings another layer of intrigue and elegance to the project.
And finally, there was Paris itself. Alice shared why it was so important to show the city in all its beauty, making it feel almost like another character within the film.
Of course, I also had to ask the important question… with such a rich world and layered characters, could there be a longer director’s cut or even a TV series one day?
