Tax cheating landlord back behind bars

A Hampshire tax fraudster has been sent back to jail for failing to repay the £190,555 he stole.

Richard Fuller, 54, of Church Crookham, Hampshire, was jailed for two years and three months after an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) found he never declared earnings from the sales of properties in the Aldershot area to evade Capital Gains Tax.

He was ordered to repay the full amount or face more time in prison, but only paid £1,400. He’s now been jailed for a further two years and still owes the money.

Richard Wilkinson, Assistant Director, Fraud Investigation Service, HMRC, said:

“This case proves crime doesn’t pay. Fuller was ordered to pay back the money but didn’t so he’ll be spending Christmas in prison and still owe the money he stole. Our work does not end when fraudsters are jailed. We will always try to recover the proceeds of crime and ensure they are spent on our vital public services.

“Anyone with information about tax fraud can report it to HMRC online or call our Fraud Hotline on 0800 788 887.”

Fuller was convicted after a trial of cheating the public revenue and fraud by false representation and was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on 11 August 2017. He was released in September 2018.
