Portsmouth's final game of the campaign ends in a stalemate at Fratton Park.
Despite Adrian Segečić giving Portsmouth the lead early on, August Priske’s response denied Pompey a fifth win in eight Championship games.
The draw meant that John Mousinho’s side placed 18th in the table on 55 points, one better than last season’s 54.
There were four changes to the side that defeated Stoke City 3-1 last weekend.
Ben Killip came in from the start for Josef Bursik, while Ibane Bowat, Jacob Brown, and Millenic Alli came in for the absent trio of Madiodio Dia, Harvey Blair, and Colby Bishop.
Segečić gave the Blues the lead inside just eight minutes, when Hayden Matthews’ through ball found Jordan Williams, whose low pass into the 18-yard box found the Croatian Under-21 international, who sliced the ball into the bottom left of James Beadle’s goal.
Jay Stansfield had to be withdrawn after 15 minutes for the visitors, as he was replaced by Paik Seung-Ho.
The Bluenoses then found an equaliser, when the Danish Forward Priske headed in a pre-header from Kai Wagner’s corner to make it 1-1.
John Swift then had to come off after the goal through injury, with Ipswich Town loanee Conor Chaplin coming on.
Chris Davies’ side controlled the majority of the first 45 after the equaliser, with Carlos Vincente coming close in a one-v-one, but Ben Killip was able to palm the ball away.
Inside the additional three minutes of added time, the Blues had one of the last actions of the half when Chaplain curled a shot at goal that went just wide of Beadle’s net.
HALF-TIME: Portsmouth 1-1 Birmingham City
Mousinho made one change at the interval, with Regan Poole replacing Connor Ogilvie, as the Welshman took the armband, and Ibane Bowat pushed out to left-back.
Ibrahim Osman had a golden opportunity to put Birmingham ahead, as Bright Osayi-Samuel made an encouraging run before pumping a ball to the back post, but Osman fired his effort wide.
A moment later, down the other end, Chaplin then caught Williams’ ball in front of goal on the volley, where Beadle punched the ball up, before it fell to Brown, whose shot went wide and over.
Alli almost found himself through on goal when he won the ball from the centre circle with a white shirt nowhere to be seen, but Osayi-Samuel burst down the pitch before catching up with the Hatters loanee.
Segečić thought he had won a penalty when he was chopped down in the area by Vincente, but referee John Brooks only gave a free-kick on the edge of the box.
Up stepped Alli, whose curled effort had too much height on it as it flew over the left-hand side of the City net.
There was a double change for Portsmouth on 70 minutes, as Thomas Waddingham and Conor Shaughnessy were subbed on for Alli and Mathews.
Killip then put on some goalkeeping heroics when he tipped Osman’s unmarked effort onto the bar and out for a corner, which Killip punched away from goal.
After a stale 80 minutes or so, the action really heated up when Segečić picked up City’s drop ball after captain Christoph Klarer went down with a shoulder injury.
The visitors then lost all composure as both Osayi-Samuel and Beadle went for the Pompey number 10, which caused a huge conundrum, with two players and both Mousinho and Davies receiving bookings for the incident.
The Fratton faithful began to sing ’10 more years John Mousinho’ and ‘Great Espace’ anthem inside the additional three minutes of added time, as neither side was able to carve out a winner.
