Pompey Seal Alex Robertson Loan Deal

20-year-old midfielder Alex Robertson has joined the Blues on a season-long loan deal from Premier League and Champions League holders Manchester City.

The Australian will wear the number 8 shirt at Fratton Park.

Robertson was born in Scotland but moved down under as a youngster, returning to the UK and to England in 2015. Since then, he has spent time with Manchester United and progressed through the youth academy of rivals Manchester City, for whom he still represents.

During the tail end of the 2020/21 campaign, he was sent on loan to Ross County in the SPFL, where he made 5 appearances.

Since that brief loan stint, Robertson has been plying his trade with City in the Premier League 2, training regularly with the first team.

Robertson is tipped by many to have a huge amount of promise and has already been capped twice by Australia.

John Mousinho has had his say on the midfielder's arrival: "Alex is a dynamic attacking midfielder who comes here off the back of an excellent season with Manchester City’s Under-21s.

“I was lucky enough to watch him play for them on a few occasions last season and he was an integral part of the side.

“He’s won the title there three years in a row and also recently got his first cap for Australia, so we’re really excited that we’ve been able to bring him to the club.

“We wanted that eight/ten who is able to really affect games and it’s another piece of business that I’m incredibly happy with this summer.

“I know that City have high hopes for him and he was involved in Pep’s matchday squads at the end of last season, which is no easy feat.”
