Pompey are through to the next round of the Checkatrade Trophy

An away win for Pompey saw them progress into the quarter finals of the EFL Trophy.

And what a start to the game it was! Dan Smith's cross was met by Louis Dennis' looping header to put the visitors 1-0 up on two minutes.

Pompey extended their lead deep into stoppage time of the first half, captain Gareth Evans fired home to double their lead.

A quiter second half for Pompey, but they saw out the game comfortably, Pompey are through to the quarter finals of the EFL Trophy. It finished at Roots Hall Southend United 0 - Pompey 2.
