Out-of-favour Blues striker Makenzie Kirk will ply his trade in League One in 2026/27.
The 22-year-old has joined Barnsley on a loan deal until the end of the campaign.
Kirk joined Pompey on September 1st, 2025 and pencilled a 3-year-deal after a fee was agreed with St Johnstone.
He managed just 14 appearances last term and scored 1 goal, that against eventual Championship title winners Coventry City at Fratton Park.
Speaking of the Northern Irishman's loan move, Blues head coach John Mousinho said: "We think that Makenzie is at a stage where he needs game time and this move gives him an opportunity to continue his development.
“Barnsley are an excellent side at that level and we believe that he can go there and do a really good job.
“The task for him is to do well with them and then come back and be able to challenge for a place in the Pompey side.”
Kirk is the second Portsmouth player to complete a loan switch away from Fratton Park this summer, following the announcement of Toby Steward's return to St Johnstone earlier in the window.
