England youth shot-stopper Josef Bursik has been announced as the Blues' first deadline day signing.

The 25-year-old arrives from Belgian Pro League side Club Brugge for an undisclosed fee and signs a 2-year deal.

His move is subject to international clearance.

Bursik, who graduated from Stoke City's academy in 2018, run out for the likes of Accrington Stanley, Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United on loan before moving to Bruges in January 2023.

Last season, the goalkeeper went out on loan to Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian, featuring 17 times.

Bursik was part of the England side that lost in the Final of the 2017 European Under-17 Championship before winning the World Cup later that same year.

John Mousinho told Pompey's media channels: "He's someone who showed a lot of promise as a youngster and has played plenty of Championship games.

"Josef really bolsters the options we've got in the goalkeeping department and is a target that's been in our sights for a while now, so we're delighted to get the deal done."

It is speculated that Josef Bursik's arrival could spell the end of Jordan Archer's time on the South Coast.
