25-year-old forward Callum Lang becomes Pompey's 3rd January signing.

It's certainly been a happy New Year for the Blues, who have recruited Callum Lang from Wigan Athletic on a 2-and-a-half-year deal with a club option for an additional 12 months.

Lang signs for an undisclosed fee from The Latics with Portsmouth reportedly shaken off rival interest from Championship outfit Rotherham United.

The Liverpool-born forward came through the ranks of Wigan's academy having joined the club at the age of 14 and was handed his debut by former Pompey boss Paul Cook in a Carabao Cup victory over Blackpool in 2017.

Lang enjoyed 4 consecutive loan spells before really bursting on to the scene at the DW Stadium and making a name for himself amongst Wigan supporters - He represented Morecambe, Oldham Athletic, Shrewsbury Town and Motherwell between 2017 and 2021.

On his first league start for Wigan away at Rochdale in January 2021, Lang also bagged his first Latics goal. He then went on to become an key figure in helping the team avoid relegation to League Two that same season.

The following campaign, the forward netted 18 goals in all competitions and was part of the Wigan side that secured the League One title in 2022 - That tally includes goals against Portsmouth in each of the club's league meetings that season.

Overall, Lang's record at Wigan displays 31 goals from 143 appearances.

Earlier this morning, he shared a heartfelt statement to thank Wigan Athletic, the staff and the fans for their support during his 7 years at the club.

Pompey head coach John Mousinho told club officials: "Callum is a versatile player who's comfortable in any position across the front line.

"He's also a proven scorer at this level and has a promotion under his belt with Wigan, so we're delighted to bring him to the club.

"Callum adds goals, creativity and experience to our squad and I'm really looking forward to working with him." - Mousinho concluded.

Lang joins Matt Macey and Myles Peart-Harris as Portsmouth FC's 3 January transfer window signings so far. The Blues are reportedly interested in Reading defender Tom McIntyre and Carlisle United midfielder Owen Moxon too, so be sure to watch this space...
