Jake Smith takes a closer look at The Pilgrims ahead of their trip to Fratton Park on Wednesday night.

After beating the league leaders on Sunday afternoon, the Blues make a swift return to action in midweek as relegation-threatened Plymouth Argyle make the journey across the coast.

MANAGER

After sacking Wayne Rooney on New Year’s Eve, The Pilgrims are now managed by former Cercle Brugge boss Miron Muslić.

The 42-year-old was announced on January 10th and just 4 days later, his first game at the helm produced a 1-1 draw with Oxford United at Home Park.

Muslić has a win percentage of 23.1 from 13 games in charge and oversaw the club’s famous FA Cup Fourth Round victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool in February.

ONE TO WATCH

On this occasion, our one to watch is 28-year-old forward Mustapha Bundu.

The Sierra Leonean attacker has 4 Championship goals to his name so far this season.

Bundu wears the number 15 shirt.

TOP SCORERRyanHardie_Mar2025

Argyle’s leading scorer across all competitions is striker Ryan Hardie.

Hardie wears the number 9 shirt and proves to be a handful for defenders with his physical presence up top.

So far this campaign, the Scotsman has scored 5 league goals as well as 1 apiece in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

CURRENT FORM

Plymouth are winless in their last 5 Championship outings and sit rock bottom of the division.

Miron Muslić’s side have 30 points to their name with 10 matches left to play - 6 points adrift of safety heading into the midweek schedule.

Not once have Argyle won a league match away from home this campaign - Their last league victory on the road came away at Rotherham United, who they beat 1-0 on April 5th, 2024. They have won once on their travels this season in The FA Cup, defeating Brentford by a goal to nil in the Third Round at the Gtech Community Stadium in January.

Earlier this season, Plymouth managed a 1-0 win over the Blues in the reverse fixture at Home Park in November.

Will it be another win for Pompey at Fratton Park?

The Pompey Live team will be back on air with full coverage of Portsmouth vs Plymouth Argyle at Fratton Park from 7pm on Wednesday (March 12th) evening - Jake Smith will be occupying the South Stand press box alongside Kirsty Roxanne and Danny Thompson.
