Portsmouth have today completed the signing of midfielder Luke Le Roux from IFK Värnamo.
The 25-year-old, who has featured in 14 of IFK Värnamo's 16 league matches so far during the 2025 season, joins for an undisclosed fee and on a 3-year contract.
Le Roux represents South Africa on the international stage and has made 5 senior appearances for Bafana Bafana since making his debut in 2022 - He was born in Stellenbosch and progressed through his home nation's youth setup.
At club level, Le Roux came through the Ikapa Sporting youth academy before going on to play professionally for SuperSport United with a loan spell at Stellenbosch, before moving away from South Africa to play European football in 2020, signing for Varbergs BoIS.
He would go on to play 97 times in Sweden's top flight (Allsvenskan) with Varberg BoIS before being picked up by Dutch outfit FC Volendam in 2023. After just 1 season in the Netherlands, Le Roux returned to Sweden with IFK Värnamo in July 2024
Just as Le Roux was joining FC Volendam in 2023, former Blues youngster Leon Maloney was leaving the same club - Signing for AFC Totton in the same month as Le Roux's arrival.
With IFK Värnamo, the central midfielder wore the number 8 shirt, however that has already been taken this season by John Swift at Portsmouth - It is currently unknown which number he will wear at Fratton Park.
Following the announcement of the newest addition to his squad, Blues head coach John Mousinho said: "Luke's form over the past couple of seasons means he not only found himself on our radar, but also that of a number of clubs."
"So we're delighted that he's agreed to join Pompey and we've brought in an experienced international player.
"Luke is a holding midfielder who likes to sit in and dictate the play. He's physically strong and can also handle the ball.
"It was a position we were looking to fill and is just what we needed. I'm excited to see him in action in a Pompey shirt."
