Soldier’s Encampment

Our first open weekend of our 40th year will see us play host to a recruiting party from Lord Brooke’s Regiment of Foote. As they pass through the village they have billeted themselves with the villagers. Will anyone be recruited to fight for Parliament? How will the villagers deal with having soldiers in their houses?
Watch as the soldiers fire their muskets and perform pike drills; chat to the villagers about their lives and what they think of these new interlopers; get involved with traditional 17th century crafts; step inside the pages of history books, to open the doors of real homes and immerse yourself in the life of a small 17th century village. There are no timed displays, so arrive when you please; most visitors spend about 3 or 4 hours in the village. Last entry 15.30. Pre-booking strongly recommended.
