Jake Smith takes a closer look at The Imps, Pompey's next opponent in the Championship.
Matchday 2 of the 2026/27 Championship season awaits for Portsmouth and it’s last term’s League One title-winners, Lincoln City the opponents away from home.
MANAGER
Following the departure of Michael Skubala to Bristol City in the summer, The Imps are now being led by head coaches Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw.
The pair were serving as Skubala’s assistants and helped play a vital part in the club’s promotion to the Championship last term.
Cohen is a former Nottingham Forest and England youth international midfielder while Shaw spent his playing days in non-league, retiring with Lincoln City, for whom he has been involved with now in various roles since 2018.
ONE TO WATC
H
Our ‘One To Watch’ for this weekend’s fixture is last season’s joint-top-scorer for The Imps; Reeco Hackett.
The former Pompey winger is now 28-years-old, wears the number 7 shirt and managed 12 goals in all competitions last time out, alongside teammates Jack Moylan and Rob Street.
TOP SCORER
From their one and only league match so far this campaign, Lincoln’s top goalscorer is defender Adam Reach.
The 33-year-old bagged against his former club, Middlesbrough last Saturday at the Riverside Stadium - He arrived at Sincil Bank as a free agent last September after leaving Wycombe Wanderers that summer.
CURRENT FORM
Whilst The Imps lost their opening league game of the season by a scoreline of 2 goals to 1 at the hands of Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium last weekend, they did record a victory in their maiden domestic match of the campaign when they defeated Derby County by the same scoreline at Pride Park in the First Round of the Carabao Cup.
Up until last week’s league defeat to Boro, Lincoln had been on an incredible 29-game unbeaten run across all competitions - A streak which helped them storm to the League One title last term, amassing 103 points!
At home at Sincil Bank, or the ProAmpac Stadium as it is currently known for sponsorship purposes, the club have not lost since December (an EFL Trophy knockout round defeat to Huddersfield Town) - or October if we’re just focussing on league football (0-1 defeat to Exeter City) - That’s 17 matches unbeaten on home territory!
Will either of these sides manage to claim their maiden win of the new league campaign?
Find out by tuning in to Express FM for all of the unmissable action this Saturday morning from 11:30am - Jake Smith and Danny Thompson will be reporting LIVE from the ProAmpac Stadium.
Kick-off: 12:30pm!
