Pompey's New Year's Day opponents are put under the microscope by Express FM's Jake Smith.

It’ll take some doing for Pompey to top a memorable night last time out, claiming victory right at the death at home to Charlton Athletic.

Up next it’s Bristol City away to kick-off 2026…

MANAGER

The Robins are managed by Austrian Gerhard Struber, who took charge in June after Liam Manning was poached in the summer by Norwich City.

Struber has won 11 of his 25 competitive games in charge so far, accruing a win percentage of 44.

The 48-year-old has also previously led Barnsley, New York Red Bulls, RB Salzburg and most recently, 1. FC Köln.

ONE TO WATCH

This time around, we think you should keep a close eye on Bristol City’s number 10, Scott Twine.

Twine joined the club in the summer of 2024 after a successful loan spell from Burnley at the back-end of the previous campaign.

So far this term, the 26-year-old former Swindon Town and MK Dons midfielder has found the back of the net 6 times and provided 6 assists across all competitions.

TOP SCORERMehmeti_TWO

Striker Anis Mehmeti is currently Bristol City’s leading scorer with 7 goals to his name at this stage of the campaign.

The Albanian, who wears the number 11 shirt, bagged the winner in the reverse fixture at Fratton Park in November and has also assisted 6 goals in the Championship this season.

CURRENT FORM

The Robins are currently sat 8th in the table, just 2 points adrift of the Play-Off places.

Prior to Monday’s night 2-1 defeat at Millwall, Gerhard Struber’s side had won 2 games on the spin against Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion.

In the Championship home form table, Bristol City sit 15th with 18 points collected off the back of 5 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats.

Can the Blues begin the New Year as they left off in 2025 - with a victory?

Catch all of the unmissable action on Pompey Live from 2pm on New Year's Day (Thursday) - Jake Smith, Kirsty Roxanne and Kev Stokes will be providing full coverage LIVE from Ashton Gate.

Kick-off: 3pm!
