Terry Devlin's late volley cancelled out Jordan James' opener at Molineux to help send the Blues on their way to a well-deserved Championship point
That’s 7 points collected from a possible 9 over the last 3 games and now just 1 defeat in 7 for John Mousinho’s side.
For the second midweek match in a row, Portsmouth found a way to make sure they come away with something, as the Blues cancel out Jordan James’s strike to snatch a point in the Black Country.
The point now takes John Mousinho’s side up to 13th in the second tier on 13 points, just two points off the play-off spots in 8th.
Mousinho made four changes to the side that earned a 1-0 victory away at Norwich City this past Saturday.
The goal-scorer Devlin came in for Zak Swanson, while Ebou Adams, Rocco Robert Shein, Tyrese Shade, replaced Marlon Pack, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, and Marko Milovanović in the XI.
And striker Thomas Waddingham returned to the matchday squad on the bench for the first time since he picked up that injury in the Carabao Cup defeat away at West Ham United back in August.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ captain André tested Nicolas Schmid in the first 45, but the Portsmouth number one did not have to do too much, as the Brazilian midfielder's effort went wide.
Down the other end, Adrian Segečić’s free-kick caused the hosts some problems, as Madiodio Dia’s header eventually bounced back out to Shein, whose low-driven attempt went wide of José Sá’s goal.
HALF-TIME: Wolves 0-0 Portsmouth
Tawanda Chirewa was in space on the right byline, where he fired a shot from the angle of the front-post, but Dia was there to block the ball away, as it kissed the crossbar.
Kavuma-McQueen and Marezi got 30+ minutes in the legs, and the pair came on for Shade and Mohammed, 53 minutes on the clock.
Wolves kept pushing for an opener and eventually found one just past the hour mark, when Spanish Under-21 international Fer López played a one-two with James, who was able to fire the ball past Schmid at his near-post to make it 1-0.
With 15 minutes to go, Odin Bailey replaced Iyad Mohammed, while summer signing Eoin Kenny came on for his Championship debut for Abu Kamara.
Portsmouth began to find a way back into the game, as Segečić’s corner met the head of Ebou Adams, whose header looped over the Wanderers net and out for a goal-kick.
But with four minutes of normal time remaining, it was Terry Devlin, with his trademark smash at goal, who earned Pompey a point at the death, as Segečić’s free-kick was blocked by the wall.
And then it fell to the feet of Devlin, who thumped the ball home from 15+ yards out to make it 1-1 late on.
Pompey did have a warning sign the game was not done in added time, as Chirewa hit a shot from the edge of the 18-yard box, but the Zimbabwe international could not find the promotion favourites a winner.
