John Mousinho's side recorded a third successive Championship win to put daylight between themselves and the drop zone with just 3 games left to play.

Ibane Bowat’s second-half goal was enough to earn the Blues a huge 3 points in PO4 and a third straight clean sheet.

The victory means that Portsmouth move up to 18th in the table, on 51 points, now ten above Leicester in 23rd.

And the Blues also have a seven-point buffer on Oxford United, in 22nd, who lost 1-0 away at Derby County in one of the two other 12:30 kick-offs.

There were two changes to the XI that defeated Ipswich Town 2-0 on Tuesday.

In came Conor Chaplin for John Swift, and Keshi Anderson for Adrian Segečić.

As well as Ebou Adams, who came on in the second 45, and Josh Murphy, who made his first appearance in a match-day squad since December.

Portsmouth started on the front foot in the opening ten minutes, but could not quite find a breakthrough.

The Blues then had to ride through some injury woes, when Anderson had to be withdrawn for Segečić 8 minutes in due to injury.

Then moments later, Player of the Season Terry Devlin had to be subbed off, with the goalscorer Bowat coming on.

The Fulham academy graduate went to left-back, which moved Jordan Williams across to his natural position on the right.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid swung a shot from a parried corner, but the Jamaican international’s effort hardly posed a threat to Pompey’s goal.

The Foxes did have a penalty shout in front of the Fratton End, when Patson Daka went down at the feet of Conor Shaughnessy, but no spot kick was given.

HALF-TIME: Portsmouth 0-0 Leicester City

Chaplin nearly made it two-in-two for himself early on after the interval, but former Portsmouth shot-stopper Asmir Begović pushed the effort behind for a corner.

Hamza Choudhury then came close down the other end, but Bangladesh International wacked the side netting from Luke Thomas' ping-ponged throw-in.

Millenic Alli found himself one-on-one with Begović, but the Luton Town loanee lost his footing at the last second as he went around the keeper before attempting to play a shot.

Pompey then took the lead just past the hour-mark, when Segečić’s left-footed corner was nodded down by Bowat at the back-post to make it 1-0.

Foxes' sub DivinNico_Schmid_MotMe Mukasa pumped a ball to the near post, where it connected with the head of Daka, but Nicolas Schmid was there to palm the ball away from the goal.

Daka was then all alone with Schmid when Regan Poole accidentally played the forward in, but Schmid jumped down to save the attempt with his feet and deny Leicester a goal, as the Austrian kept his third clean sheet in a row.

With just over 10 minutes to go, Adams replaced Alli, while Jacob Brown came on for Segečić to see the afternoon out.

Gary Rowett’s side did have one last chance at the death through the Manchester City loanee - Mukasa, but his free-kick went comfortably wide of the Milton End goal.
