Pompey fell to their third defeat of the season following a loss on home soil to Derby County, who claim their maiden win of the campaign.
Goals from Sammie Szmodics in the first half and Lars-Jørgen Salvesen in the second was the difference at Fratton Park.
Not only is it only 1 win in 4 for the Blues this season, but their second consecutive defeat on home soil since opening day.
John Mousinho made four changes to the side that lost away at Ashton Gate last Saturday.
Goalkeeper Daniel Bielica came in for Nicolas Schmid, Madiodio Dia for the absent Conor Shaughnessy, Ebou Adams for Rocco Robert Shein, and Marko Milovanović for Colby Bishop.
Derby took the lead inside 16 minutes, when Bobby Clark dragged the ball away from Dia on the by-line, before pulling the ball back across to Szmodics, who poked the ball under Bielica at his near post to make it 1-0.
Ryan Kavuma-McQueen put in a solid challenge on Rams captain Sondre Langås, but the Chelsea loanee did go flying into the advertising board, hurting his wrist, which was bandaged up at the interval.
Portsmouth tried to find an equaliser as Abu Kamara linked up with Adrian Segečić, whose effort was deflected behind for a Blues corner.
HALF-TIME: Portsmouth 0-1 Derby County
Pompey then had back-to-back corners after Kamara’s initial shot from the first set-piece was deflected out for a second, but no Blue shirt could find a break-through on the second attempt.
The Rams doubled their lead just past the hour mark, when sub Salvesen flicked up Oscar Fraulo’s lay-off before smashing the ball on the half-volley into the top right-hand corner, past Bielica to make it 2-0.
Bishop, Luke Brooke-Smith, Shein and Championship debutants Odin Bailey and Iyad Mohammed came on for the Blues, but none of the 5 subs made in the second 45 could quite change the impact of the result.
