Portsmouth Football Club has this evening announced the departure of winger Paddy Lane.

The 24-year-old has joined League One Reading, who the Blues beat 4-0 in a friendly last weekend, for an undisclosed fee. He signs a 3-year deal at the Madejski Stadium.

Lane scored 14 goals in 84 appearances for Pompey following his arrival from Fleetwood Town in January 2023 - He links up with former Portsmouth striker Noel Hunt, who is the current Royals head coach.

During his first full season at the club, the Northern Irishman bagged 12 goals and was an instrumental figure in securing the League One title.

Last term, Lane featured 22 times in the Championship and netted his final goal for the club in a 4-0 win over Swansea City on New Year's Day.

Speaking in a club statement, head coach John Mousinho states: "Paddy was one of the first players through the door when I arrived at Pompey and made a big impact on the team.

"He played a big role in getting this side to the Championship and, for that reason alone, is sure to get a good reception whenever he returns to Fratton Park."

Portsmouth host Reading at Fratton Park in the First Round of the Carabao Cup on August 12th.

Mousinho finished by saying: "We will certainly miss his presence - both on and off the pitch - but this move will hopefully provide him with the regular first team action he deserves."
