Blues defender Jacob Farrell has moved back to the A-League (Australia) and signed for Sydney FC.
The 23-year-old defender joins with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign and arrives at the club with a pedigree and experience in he division already, having played a significant role in one of the most successful periods in the history of Central Coast Mariners before initially joining Portsmouth in 2024.
His performances during his most recent A-League campaign earned him a spot in the PFA A-League Team of the Season for 2023/24.
Last term, the left back featured 7 times for city rivals Western Sydney Wanderers on loan from the Blues.
Speaking with the Sydney FC media representatives, Farrell said: "I’m delighted to be joining Sydney FC. It’s the biggest club in the A-League and a club that expects to be challenging for trophies every season, so that was a huge attraction for me.
"I know what it takes to be successful in this league and I want to bring that experience here and help Sydney FC have another successful season.
"The Sydney Derby is obviously a massive way to start the season and having experienced it from the other side last year, I know exactly what sort of atmosphere to expect. It would be pretty special to pull on the Sky Blue shirt for the first time in a game like that.
"I’ve had a really valuable couple of years with Portsmouth and learned a lot from being in a Championship environment."
