Brentford centre-back Benjamin Arthur has completed a season-long loan move to Pompey.
The 20-year-old began his professional career with The Bees in 2023 but was immediately placed in the club's 'B' Team following a transfer from Peterborough United which was reported at the time to be for a fee "close to £1million".
He was named as Brentford B' 'Player of the Year' for the 2024/25 campaign, during which he helped steer the side to the Professional Development League trophy.
In March 2024, Brentford suffered several injured at the back and this provided Arthur with an opportunity - He received his first-ever call into the first team squad for a Premier League match against Arsenal, however he remained an unused substitute for the 2-1 defeat.
Arthur, who has been capped for England up to Under-20 level, spent time on loan at Scottish Premiership winners Celtic last term and made 6 appearances - he will wear the number 2 shirt for the Blues in 2026/27.
Before his temporary spell in Scotland, the defender made 3 senior appearances for Brentford, the first of which marking his debut in an early season Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa.
Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho said in an official club statement: "We’re thrilled to bring Benjamin here for the season to boost our defensive ranks.
"He possesses all the attributes you expect of a centre-back and is also more than comfortable with the ball at his feet.
"Despite his relatively young age, he already has experience of top-flight football and we feel he can be a real asset as we look to progress in our third season in the Championship."
Benjamin Arthur is Portsmouth's 8th signing of the summer transfer window.
