The Evie Dove Foundation: Big Coastal Walk in Portsmouth 2026

Join Sarah Smart for a flat 16 mile walk around Portsea Island this September, raising money for The Evie Dove Foundation in memory of 13 year old Evie Dove, who died of a brain tumour in 2022.

The Portsmouth Big Coastal Walk takes place on Saturday 5th September 2026, starting and finishing at the Red Lion in Cosham from 10:00am. Walkers are invited to wear bright pink t shirts and take on the scenic 16 mile coastal route together in support of children's healthcare professionals across the NHS.

Sarah, 55, from Portsmouth, was herself diagnosed with a non cancerous brain tumour in August 2021. It affects her every day, and she underwent treatment three years ago. After taking part in the Foundation's Big Coastal Walk in Kent, where Evie was from, in 2024, Sarah felt inspired to bring the event to her home town. This will be the second year she has organised the Portsmouth walk, with over 20 local residents taking part last year.

"Following my diagnosis, I'm fortunate enough to still be here," said Sarah. "Evie wasn't given that privilege. When we walk on Saturday 5th we are walking to raise funds for the incredible Evie Dove Foundation, but also to celebrate life and our local community. This isn't a race, it's about supporting each other. Last year everyone had a proper laugh and the camaraderie was great. We'd love to see as many of you there as possible!"

The Evie Dove Foundation was set up in memory of Evie Dove, who lived life to the full with a sparkle in her heart. She was brave, kind, and caring, and lit up every room she entered. The Foundation supports sick children and their families to access the best possible care, by funding training for children's healthcare professionals known as Evie Dove Heroes. To date, it has supported over 290 paediatric healthcare professionals working in the NHS, across specialisms including psychology, allergy, and physiotherapy.

The Portsmouth Big Coastal Walk is open to everyone, with no fundraising targets attached. Entry costs £10 and includes a bright pink Evie Dove Foundation t-shirt and a medal. Whether you're a keen walker looking for a scenic challenge, part of the local Portsmouth community, or simply want to support a cause close to home, all are welcome to take part.

The walk follows the coastline around Portsea Island, taking in views across the Solent as it makes its way around the island back to Cosham. It's a fun day out for walkers of all abilities, with plenty of time to enjoy the route, meet fellow participants, and soak up the community spirit that made last year's event such a success.
