Despite Jacob Brown scoring his first Portsmouth goal in the second half, the consolation was simply not enough to respond to two first-half strikes from Ethan Galbraith and then Josh Key.
John Mousinho’s side remain 19th in the Championship; however, Leicester City picked up a vital three points at home to Bristol City.
And with Oxford United hosting Blackburn, and West Bromwich Albion all being in action tomorrow night, the pressure continues to heat back up for the Blues.
There were two changes to the side that drew 1-1 at Ewood Park on Saturday, with Brown coming in for Conor Chaplin, and Madiodio Dia, making his first start, while both Conor Shaughnessy and Regan Poole were absent from the squad.
The Blues struggled to get going from the first kick of the game, with Swansea playing multiple patterns of play around the hosts.
Slovenian international Žan Vipotnik tested Nicolas Schmid early on, but the strikers' efforts went wide and over.
Portsmouth then thought they had the ball in the back of the net when a parried Blues corner found the boot of Brown, but Lawrence Vigouroux palmed the ball onto the post and into his gloves, despite the jubilation from the home crowd.
The Swans took the lead 26 minutes gone, when Josh Tymon laid the ball onto Galbraith, who finessed the ball into the bottom left-hand corner to give The Jacks the lead.
Vítor Matos’ side then doubled their lead, as Ronald laid the ball onto Key from 20+ yards out, who flung the ball into the top right-hand corner of Schmid’s net to make it 2-0.
HALF-TIME: Portsmouth 0-2 Swansea City
Mousinho made one change at the interval with Chaplin replacing Millenic Alli, which forced Gustavo Caballero onto the left flank and Brown out to the right.
City had chances to make it 3-0 early in the second half, as their quick press and counter-attack caught Pompey out on a few occasions, with Galbraith coming closest, but the Northern Ireland International’s shot went wide.
Pompey then found some response when Zak Swanson played a one-two with Caballero, before he pumped the ball onto the head of Brown, whose header went past Vigouroux to make it 1-2.
Despite a steady 5 minutes after the consolation, Portsmouth’s chance of a comeback eventually fizzled out.
The likes of John Swift, Adrian Segečić, and Harvey Blair came on in an attempt for Pompey to conjure a potential comeback, but ultimately the Blues were unable to find a way.
