Alesha Dixon to light up Spinnaker Tower with Nissan Leaf

Alesha Dixon will be lighting up Portsmouth on Monday (May 21st) as she switches on the lights at Spinnaker Tower.

This is not just any light switch on. For one night only, the Spinnaker Tower lights will be powered by the charge from a Nissan LEAF, the world’s first mass-produced 100% electric family car.

The award winning 100% electric vehicle, which provides up to 109 miles on one charge, has been specially converted to allow the power of the battery to be extracted.

The event, to take place at 9.30pm at the Gunwharf Quays landmark, is being staged as part of Nissan’s The Big Turn On campaign, an initiative designed to raise awareness of the low-carbon benefits of 100% electric vehicles.

A live performance by the popular singer and Nissan campaign ambassador will follow the big turn on and will see the star perform a number of songs from her platinum selling album ‘The Alesha Show.’

Speaking ahead of the event, Nissan’s Marketing Director, Steve McLennan said: "The Big Turn On Campaign is one of a number of Nissan initiatives to drive change for a low-carbon, sustainable future.

The Big Turn On Campaign follows Nissan’s sponsorship of Climate Week, for which the manufacturer is the official vehicle provider.
