Leigh and Joel

Welcome to the official page for 93.7ExpressFM's new mid-morning show, 'Leigh and Joel In The Morning'.
Broadcasting live from 10 am until midday, Leigh and Joel, bring you a mixture of music - new and old - in between chatting about topical news stories in their own inimitable style.

Leigh and Joel like animal news. So much, they have a segment called 'Animal News'. If you have any animal news, please message them.
Leigh likes normal news, so Joel gave her a slot of her own. It's called LeighMaryStokes' News Story Of The Day.
Joel is nothing if not imaginative.

Leigh and Joel like local news. None more so than the continuing adventures of Buddy The Dog, who is photographed daily around the city of Portsmouth by his owner, Hayley Storey, and you have to guess where he is. Buddy can be found on twitter at this address - @buddyportsmouth - Leigh and Joel can be found on twitter at this address - @LeighAndJoel.
Leigh and Joel like twitter.

So, apart from the daily news, the animal news and Leigh's favourite news, Leigh and Joel also like to cover film news, music news (especially from great new local artists) and other such wonderful things from the world of popular culture.
They also cover serious issues, too. But that's mostly done over the phone.

If you'd like to be a part of the show with Leigh and Joel in the mornings, it's quite easy to do. Just listen to the song below and, as the youth say, get involved.

Here are some fun(nish) things we've been up to:

A Special Thing

It was nice to be squeezed in between QRadio and Radio2 last week thanks to our chat with Bastille frontman, Dan Smith, ahead of their gig on Friday night at Southampton venue, The Joiners Arms.

We love Bastille here at ExpressFM and Dan's been on our playlist since 2008 with various songs. In December, last year, they signed a deal with Virgin/EMI and we (if you'll excuse the reference) were overjoyed.

Here's our chat with Dan for you to listen to.

Wednesday 25th April

We had authors BT Gorman and David J Morris in the studio today. They were talking about their novels, 'Underclass' and 'Trolleyed' as well as speaking about the more cultural goings on in our fair city.

These lovely gentlemen have been invited back to join us again next month and they're going to bring a guest with them. The cultural revolution at ExpressFM begins here!

We don't want to give too much away about the content of their novels, so, instead,we've attached some links at the bottom of this entry for you to find and buy them.

Very kindly, the chaps brought in goodies for us to give away and you can win these lovely things by answering two very simple (ang googleable) questions:

A) What was the name of Charles Bukwoski's debut novel?

B) What was the name of the central character in that novel?

All you need to do to win the prizes pictured below is email mejoel@expressfm.com, or tweet @leighandjoel, with your answers and we'll make sure they make their way to you.

Here's a pic of the goodies and links to the books -

Newsflash:

We had Kelly from Echo Charity Events in the studio talking about an event they're putting on this Friday (27th April). Rather than relay it, we thought we'd post the letter they sent to us explaining exactly what it is they're doing and here it is below.

Dear Friend,

We are Echo, and our name stands for our company’s primary function, which is ‘Events
for Charity Organisation’. We would like to invite you to ‘The War Within Appeal’ event,
which has been confirmed and will be taking place on 27th April in Royal Maritime Club. It
is a black-tie, three-course dinner event with entertainment in aid of two charities, Combat
stress, a charity dedicated to helping veterans affected psychologically by their military
service, and Help for Heroes, an organisation that supports men and women of the armed
forces. By coupling a well-known charity with one that is less familiar we hope to encourage
awareness and recognition for the smaller charity. As such, 70% of the profit we make from
this project will be donated to Combat Stress and the remaining 30% to Help for Heroes.

The ticket costs £50 and it includes a three-course meal and entertainment. We have two
bands, cellist and a magician lined up so far. You will also be able to buy tickets for a raffle
with interesting prizes from our sponsors. There will also be a silent auction held throughout
the whole night.

If you would like to support us in any way, be it by buying a ticket or donating then please
find our contact details at the bottom of the email. Also, please spread the word. You would
not only help us as a company, but your action may affect many others, as all the profits that
we make will go to the charities.

If you have any queries regarding the event or the company please see our website http:/
/echocharityevents.weebly.com/index.html or find us on facebook at http://
www.facebook.com/#!/pages/EChO/315209051842515.

You can also contact us at echocharityevents@gmail.com, or 07580 133 681

The committee have all worked extremely hard and are excited for this event, but in order
for it to be a success we need to sell more tickets. This is why we’re asking for your help.

Hope to hear from you soon

Kind Regards and Best Wishes

The EChO team

And here's a picture of Kelly.

Thursday 19th April

It's been a while since our last post and we are sorry for that. It's not good.

In our absence, the lettuce have died. The Aerogarden is now devoid of green and is looking like an after-Easter wilderness of white. We're looking forward to our next visit from the people up at Chrissie's Garden Hydroponics because they're bringing us chillis to grow.

Moving on, we've had work experience people in with us for the last couple of weeks and they came in the shape of Elli and Agnes who hail from Bavaria. Joel decided to learn about Bavaria and, on their last day with us, formulated a Bavarian quiz to help increase his knowledge and, also, to see how much they didn't know about their homeland. And they didn't know alot. However, we did like the Bavarian folk music we played under the quiz as it went on.

We're sad that they're leaving us. They were alot of fun. Maybe we'll go over for Oktoberfest in September (seems like it should be called Septemberfest, doesan't it?) or maybe they'll come back to say hi? Either way, we feel that we've not only built bridges between us and Germany, but we've also built bridges to our hearts.

More, normal, radio stuff will resume next week. Until then, here's a picture of Agnes and Elli for your enjoyment.

Friday 23rd March

We had Ortis from The Gadget Show on this morning talking about inventions. Joel relayed his childhood inventioon of floating soap (or, FLOAP, as he called it) and Ortis introduced us to an amazing new collapsable trravel plug that yuou can see by hitting this link http://www.themu.co.uk

Our local artist this week was Luke Ferre. Luke came in and played a track a day, ending with a Culture Club cover preceeded by an original track by him on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. However, on Monday, Luke did something rather special. He played his interpretation of the Katy Perry/Snoop Dogg hit, California Gurls. Luke's version is called Portsmouth and Southsea Girls and here's the song - and our chat with him - for your listening pleasure.

Luke Ferre Chat and Song

Now, here's some lettuce.

Have a lovely weekend.

Tuesday 20th March

We had a good Tuesday. We learnt how to save energy thanks to Elizabeth Harvey from The Scout Association and Suzanne Doxey from E.ON.Take their survey and find out if you're green enough here https://www.eonenergy.com/At-Home/Products/EnergyFit/?WT.svl=4 and then sit back and listen to your kids when they tell you to turn all the electricals off. They know what they're talking about! #kidfluence

Our animals news led us here -

http://redscharlach.tumblr.com/post/19565284869/otters-who-look-like-benedict-cumberbatch-a
It's a wonderful site. You're going to enjoy it.

And, as well as having local artist, Luke Ferre, back in to play and chat again, we also invited birthday girl, Louise Whitmore (LoveSouthsea & TeamLocals.com) in to collect her 40th (yes, that's 40th) birthday present. Here's what we got her.

Who's a lucky birthday girl, then?

We'll leave you with today's picture of our fast growing lettuce.

Monday 19th March

Happy Monday, one and all.
What a fun show we had today. And what a surprise we got when we arrived at the the office this morning and saw our budding lettuces.

Seriously, look at those bad boys! This is one BLT we can't wait to get our teeth into.

In further news we had local artist, Luke Ferre, in for a chat.
We'd heard from Steve Pitt (The Cellars At Eastney's owner) that Luke had made his own version of the Katy Perry/Snoop Dogg hit, California Gurls. He's called it Portsmouth and Southsea Girls. It was a winner. Hopefully, by the end of the week Luke will allow us to put it on soundcloud and link you to it through this page, but, in the meantime, Luke will be joining us everyday this week and to play us a mixture of his songs and some covers.
To listen to Luke's music when he's not on the radio, simply go here http://www.lukeferre.com or here  https://www.facebook.com/lukeferreband or follow him on here http://www.twitter.com/lukeferre
We'll leave you with a lovely pic of Luke looking lovely.

Tuesday 13th March

We had an extremely relaxed Tuesday show. Nice tunes and lovely guests were the call of the day. And these were our lovely guests.

That's Mr Daniel O'Neill on the left and Miss Kendal James on the right, modelling their wonderful wares.
And if you're after an awesome new keyring, or a badge, or a nice pendant then keep looking and reading.
Kendal and Daniel can be found, on most Sundays, at the LoveSouthsea Market down at the Square Tower or, when it's on, at The Guildhall Boutique Market where they freely tout their goods to all who want them.
If you can't make it to a market, then here are all the other places you can find pics and info about what they do and make in amongst some close up shots of our time with them in the studio.

http:///www.kendaljames.co.uk

http://www.etsy.com/shop/kendaljames

http://www.facebook.com/eyecandybykendaljames

You can follow Kendal on twitter, too. It's @MissKendalJames. We highly recommend you follow Daniel, too. He's @MrDaniellONeill.

Lovelier guests we couldn't've wished for.

Monday 12th March

What a happy Monday we had!

It's an exciting time to be a lettuce living in our office. It almost seems sad that we're going to eat them soon with bacon and tomato.

Moving on from the greens.........our Leigh and Joel In The Morning mugs arrived!

If you'd like to find one of our lovely mugs on your shelf all you need to do is send us a pic of you with your favourite mug. You can tweet us ( @LeighAndJoel or @expressfm ), you can email us (mejoel@expressfm.com or studio@expressfm.com) or you can post it on facebook and tag 93.7ExpressFM in it.

Maddie Smith and Jodie Luke Copeland already did this. Look at Jodie's terrible shirt.

And on that bombshell, we'll leave you. Hurt, lost and forlorn at the imagery above.

Wednesday 7th March

Forgive us. It's been a week since our last confession and we have alot to get off our chests.

Today's show was fun. We had guests galore and what lovely guests they were. But first, we need a lettuce update.
Thanks to the lovely people at Chrissie's Garden Hydroponics Ltd we here at ExpressFM are growing our own greens in the office. We've had them named by our listeners and colleagues, and this is how they're doing.
Carly Rockett Lettuce is a slow grower, but we have high hopes for our little sproutling. Leonard Lettuce is developing nicely, as is I Wish I Was A Cabbage But I'm A Lettuce Lettuce. Lottie The Lettuce, Sosij Milosovich Lettuce and Lettuce Hemmings are doing ok, but they've not hatched from their houses yet. We'll keep you posted. But, leading the way is MadBillBee Lettuce who is looking fine, fit and healthy.
Here's a pic to prove it.

Our first guest of the day was the very lovely, Suzi Perry. We all know Suzi from Channel5's The Gadget Show and MotoGP on the Beeb and she came on the show to talk about increasing petrol prices, how people are really scrimping on life's expenses to cover their travel costs and to give some helpful tips on how to save money on the gas you buy.
After discussing the research conducted by Batchelors (all details can be found on http://www.batchelorsfuellingbritain.co.uk ) Suzi laid her wisdom upon us. You may wish to employ these 5 handy hints into your next, and future, road trips.

  1. UNDER-PRESSURE

If your tyres are under-inflated the car will require more engine power, keep your tyres at the correct pressure as per your handbook and you’ll save those pennies. If you don’t have a pump at home you can check your tyre pressure at your local petrol or service station.

  1. DON’T REV THE ENGINE

Driving smoothly will help to conserve fuel, so leave the boy racer at home and watch your rev counter.

  1. NO SPEED RACER, NO!

Speeding up and slowing down quickly burns fuel more quickly so stick to the speed limit and there’ll be no need to slam your brakes on for the speed cameras.

  1. DUMP THE JUNK FROM THE TRUNK

A heavy car requires more engine power, clear out any heavy items such as tool boxes, golf clubs etc. from the boot and make sure you are not carrying anything unnecessary which will weigh you down.

  1. CLOSE THE SUNROOF

An open window or sunroof damages the aerodynamics of the car so that the engine has to work harder to power it. Simply close the windows and you’ll waste less fuel. Air con can also cause a drag on the engine so make sure you use it with caution.

Now, here's a nice pic of Suzi for your enjoyment.

(Ok, that was for Joel's enjoyment. Let's allow him that, just this once.)

After the AMAZING Animal News segment that told us of the Timelord Tortoise found in the Ukraine who had two hearts, two heads and six legs (seriously, is that not awesome) we welcomed our second guests of the day into the studio. And here they are.

Ashley John and Louise Bush begin their two week art exhibition at our favourite comic book store, Room237, this evening. Well, it's below the actual shop in their basement. Sounds weird, but it's not. The space is fantasic. And from what we learnt, so's the art that's currently filling it.
The theme of the exhibition is 'Heroes' and, without wishing to spoil your enjoyment of it, we won't mention too much (instead you can hit this link and introduce yourself to their work. http://www.heroesart.wordpress.com ) but, with the likes of Studio Ghibli, Eric Cantona & Hunter S Thompson on display, we can safely say this is something we're going to greatly enjoy. Almost as much as we enjoyed having them in the studio.
Why can't all guests be like this?
<<<Ash
<<<Lou
Sadly, the third artist involved in the project, Lee Casey, wasn't able to come into the studio due to being lazy and at home, in bed, playing Pokemon. Yes, really.
We're looking forward to having Louise and Ashley (and, hopefully, Lee) back into the studio when their run's finished so we can talk to them again about how it went and future projects.

We also found a cheese curl that looked like Jesus, but that was all we did.

Wednesday 29th February

We had a great show on this very special day of 'Leaplings'. Was it your birthday? Why didn't you let us know???
It was also the day where women propose to gentlemen and we had Geoff Beattie (best known as Big Brother's resident psychologist) on the show talking about a recent survey taken by the people at Sandals Luxury Vacations, looking into the fears of men when being proposed to. Joel had no comment on this matter.

We also had Chris Hatton in from Chrissie's Garden Hydroponics Centre. Chrissie's Garden can be found up at Quartermaine Rd, usually, but now, part of Chrissie's Garden can be found in our very own offices! And here's the proof.

Yes, we have our very own AeroGarden and we're growing lettuce in it!
We want you, our listeners, to name your own lettuce. We'll keep you updated, daily, with pics and news on their growth. We'll even send you some leaves when they're grown.
We've named two, so far.
We have Sosij Milosovic Lettuce. And we have MadBillBee Lettuce. Do you want some salad named after you? Of course, you do!
We love Chrissie's visits. If you're interested in starting to get more self-sufficient then hit his website for details and drop in and see him for a chat.

In our new Twitter related segment, we sent local singing sensation, Huw Olesker, out in Commercial Rd to talk to people about the top trending topic on our favourite website.
Today's topic was 'What Are you Still Doing In The Year 2012, That Perhaps You Shouldn't'.
If you could see Huw in his little orange jacket, you'd tell him he shouldn't be doing that. There's a cue for a picture we'll get tomorrow.

Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th February

We had a bit of a blue Monday and plodded through the show as best we could. We had no guests, just the usual segments and fun. Just nothing really to shout about. Happily, we can't say the same of Tuesday. Tuesday was all the fun!

We launched our new trailer. It aired on Darren Gamblen's breakfast show. And here it is for you.

We launched our new way of spreading the love for local artists.
What we're doing, until March, is focussing on one artist and playing a different song by them everyday for a week.
Darren, on Breakfast, has taken Blackfoot Circle.
Terry, in the Afternoons, has taken The Hall of Mirrors.
Liam, on Drivetime, has taken Bear Cavalry.
And we've taken Huw Olesker and the Barebackers.

We'll be focussing on these artists for the reast of the week and then launching with others every week until our playlist is updated and awesome.

We had guests on Tuesday! And those guests were Adam Cooper and Scarlet Strallen from the stage musical version of Singin In The Rain.
We love MGM Musicals and Singin In The Rain is one of our favourites. Our excitement isn't easily expressed in words, so here's the interview for you to listen to at your leisure.

Singin In The Rain is running now at The Palace Theatre in Shaftesbury Ave in London until September and we can't wait to go and see it.
#Camp

Of course, it was TaxiDriver Tuesday and today's songs were chosen by TaxiDriver, Alex, 32, from Portchester.
Alex listed his hobbies as being the outdoors, bicycles and clean air.
His song choices were as follows:
Stuck in a traffic jam - Last Train To Clarksville by The Monkees
Sing-a-long for a long journey - Going Up The Country by Canned Heat
Shuffling around town - Custom Hands by Bear Cavalry

Nice choices, Al!

That was, basically, it for Tuesday's show. Apart from the fact that we discovered that a gathering of three or more mice is called a 'Mischeif'. A Mischief of Mice. Isn't that a thing?
#Edutainment

Friday 24 February

A busy Friday with guests galore. Sadly, one of our guests, Hollywood stuntman, Steve Truglia, had to cancel. We hope he's not hurt himself. He'll be on the show next week, instead, and we're looking forward to chatting with him.

We did, however, have TV's Escape To The Country presenter, Jonny Irwin, on the phone talking about houses. More specifically new and old houses and which we prefer. If you've got a pre-1990s home and you're not a fan of new builds, but want to change your home, you can find some helpful hints here: http://www.ratedpeople.com
#ImproveDontMove

We had our usual Animal News and Leigh's News Story Of The Day. They involved crocodiles, a sausage dog and a man who claims to be 115 years old (but has no proof of this claim). So, that was nice.

Our second guest of the day was Neuroscientist, Dr David Lewis. What a nice chap he was. He talked to us about breakfasts and the importance of them if we want to start our day happy and productive. We eat breakfast everyday and we're everso happy. Brioche, white toast and butter, crumpets, smoothies, the legendary bacon sandwich and porridge were listed as the best things to eat in the morning. Dr Lewis discovered this in a recent experiment he conducted on 13 men and 12 women. His studies were back by the mighty bakers, Warburtons, and more details can be found on their website.
http://www.warburtons.co.uk
#EmbraceTheBap

And, lastly, today was our last day of headweighing. Sadly, Liam Howes (ExpressDrivetime) didn't make it in to weigh his mahoosive head, so Joel weighed his, instead. It weighed in at a respectable 4pounds. And here's the proof.

That's it for the headweighing, but thanks to all who have sent in - or had their heads weighed - here are some of our favourites:
This is Brad Bennett. What a silly man. 5pound 10? Impressive.

This is Toby Taylor of Bored Of Southsea on Albert Rd and his five and a half pound monster.

This is one of our regular listeners, Mr Mick Bradley. 8 pound 8! I know babies that weighed less than that!

Lastly, the team from Room237 on Elm Grove (our favourite of all the comic book stores) got involved. Thanks to Angelo and Shaun. Angelo's head weighed in at 3pounds - we decided that was due to his hair (or rather, lack of hair) - and Shaun's came in at 3.2pounds.

And that's us done for another week. New games, new segments, more silliness, surrounded by sensible, caring interviews next week.
Thanks for listening.
#Edutainment

Thursday 23 February

Today we discovered that Jack Russells are all the rage in the world of dog buying, thanks to the wonderful film, The Artist. Although two local legends, Nick Courtney and Steve Pitt, disagree and have recently purchased a Ladradoodle and a Cockapoo, respectively.

We weighed another member of the ExpressFM's head. Today was the turn of Terry Powell, presenter of our afternoon show. We thought Terry's head would be light, but, boy were we mistaken as iot weighed in at a massive 5pounds6!
And here's the proof.

We have many photos from listeners who have been weighing their heads. Our video gallery will soon be available for all to watch. Thanks to everyone that got involved. Last day of head weighing tomorrow and onto pastures greener, next week.
#Edutainment

Wednesday 22 February

It was an important day for birthdays today. Well, for us it was, anyway.
We celebrated Aimee Sladden's 11th birthday; dockyard legend, Shaun Laver the cheesy quaver, was 41; and Steve Pitt from The Eastney Cellars celebrated an age that none of us will ever know.

Joel was happy. His sister, Zoe, text in asking to come and join the show to promote her new place of work.
http://www.hypoxichichester.co.uk is where you can find details of this new venture, which looks like the ultimate way for getting fit and toning up. Apparently, one of its sister centres was on TOWIE. But, we don't watch that. However, we will be visiting Chichester very soon.
Leigh was happy because we played One Direction and The Backstreet Boys.

The new headweighing craze that's sweeping the nation was fun again, today. Breakfast show presenter, Darren Gamblen, came down to weigh his head and it came in at a massive 7pounds! That's the heaviest head, so far, and here's the proof.

Darren's in the lead, but Liam Howes is up on Friday and he was blessed with a bonce that giants would be jealous of.
Terry Powell's turn tomorrow.
In honour of our listeners who have been weighing their own heads and tweeting/emailing/texting us their pics, we gave away two tickets to tonight's NME Awards Show in Bournemouth to this silly chap.

Congratulations, Toby Binstead, on your win. The camera never lies, you really are a winner.

Lastly, one of our regular contributors, Angelo Tirotto from Southsea's favourite comic book store, Room237 on Elm Grove, has his very own comic book series - entitled No Place Like Home - starting today. Here's a bit of blurb about it.

No Place Like Home is a modern day horror story based on L. Frank Baum’s world of Oz. It all starts when twenty-something Dee returns to Emeraldsville, Kansas to bury her parents who died in a freak tornado. It’s not long after the funeral the trouble begins as the old town folk fall victim to some horrific and brutal murders. As the murders get closer to Dee a secret from the past is revealed and a collision course with a certain Wicked Witch is set in motion.

If you want to grab yourself a copy so you can start collecting the series, you can visit the website at www.noonemournsthewicked. com and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ NoPlaceLikeHomeComic. If you want to get in touch email oz@noonemournsthewicked. com and Twitter users, you’ll find Angelo at @Room237.

Here's a sneaky peak of the covers.

So, that's it. Another day down. We're off for a sleep.
#Edutainment

Tuesday 21 February

We had a fun packed morning with our introduction of a new weekly segment called Taxi Driver Tuesday (thanks to Robert De Niro for his help with the idents).
Mark Le Taxi - one of our regular listeners - was the first of our modern day coachmen/women to get involved by sending us his ultimate driving songs under the themes 'Best Song For Shuffling Around Town', 'Best Song To Be Stuck In A Jam To' and 'Best Sing-a-long' Song For A Long Journey'. He chose (in order) Eagles of Death Metal, Speaking in Tongues; Elbow, One Day Like This; and Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run.
Great choices.
We spoke to Mark, briefly, and asked him questions that didn't involve what time he started, what time he finished, how the weather was, or whether or not he'd been busy.
If you're a taxi driver and you want to be our next victim, sorry, i mean guest, please get in touch. studio@expressfm.com

Yesterday we launched another segment, just for this week, and that segment involved headweighing live on air.
Have you ever weighed your head? No? Well neither had anyone at Express FM, so we've remedied that and now it's the newest & biggest craze to spread across the south.
This morning we weighed Vicki Hemmings' head (she's the marketing exec here and co-presenter of Tuesday night's DIY Show). Her head didn't weigh as much as Leigh Mary Stokes' head. Leigh's was four pounds (see yesterday's pic) and Vicki's weighed in at a respectable 3pounds. Here's proof in picture form.

Tomorrow, we weigh Darren Gamblen's head, so we're off to the local scrapyard as our normal scales just won't do the job.
#Edutainment

Monday 20 February

A new week and due to the fact we had no guests booked for Monday morning we decided to weigh Leigh's head.
Don't believe us? Here's the proof.

Now wondering, why? Well, why not?
We were short of things to do once we'd decided the best pet names we'd been told, during the show, were 'Toady Wiggins Amazing Ears' and 'Mr Fluffington Boots' (they were the names of two cats) and, also, discovering that our listeners' favourite British Animated Character was Dangermouse.
You can find out what the nation's favourite animated character is on March 11th at The British Animation Awards.

Friday 17 February

Blissfields fun now!

We love Blissfields Festival. And Blissfields Festival loves us. When we're all together, there's alot of love in the room.
On Friday February 17th, Paul and Mel joined us on the phone from their home at Bradley Farm to talk about the first band announcements for 2012's festival and, also, the Road To Blissfields event that we're hosting down at The Edge of The Wedge (at The Wedgewood Rooms) on April 27th. Have a little listen.

We're pleased to announce that we'll be broadcasting live from Blissfields on friday June 29th from 10 until 12. We'll be in the Hidden Hedge, where, for the first time, artists will be playing throughout the day. We'll be booking some local acoustic artists to join us on the day and we're more than a little bit excited about this news.

We'll keep you updated with Blissfields news, but, please hit their website and their facebook page and follow them on the twitter ( @blissfields ) .
And that is all.
Here's a pic of Paul and Mel looking hot.

Next up, following on from his brief chat with Judith Chalmers about 'Bleasure Stay' holidays, we'll be posting a photoshopped picture of what Joel imagines a holiday with Judith Chalmers would look like.
#Edutainment

Thursday 16 February

In further news, to try and improve on Joel's terrible eating habits we invited nutritionist, Julliette Kellow, onto the show to talk about the benefits of berries, more specifically, the blueberry. We discovered that the blueberry contains more antioxidants than most fruits. Yep, even oranges, apples and bananas. Who knew?
We thought February was the right time to talk about these things seeing as bad habits, after the January detox, will have probably kicked in.
Juliette was horrified by Joel's eating habits and suggested various easy recipes, including blueberry smoothies and options for pancakes (topical) some of which can be found here - http://www.seasonalberries.co.uk

Just after Juliette joined us on the phone, we received 3 more visitors baring joyous gifts that came in the shape of chocolate and banana muffins. Joel loves a cake and is a keen baker and, happily, the banana/chocolate combo is 100% his sort of muffin.
The three visitors in question were Leslie from Sainsburys in Farlington, Kate from Sainsburys' Head Office and Angie from the charity, Homestart Havant.
They came in - not only to tempt Joel with their wares - but to promote a series of projects, beginning with their team up with Angie that launches on Tuesday 21st Feb.
Please see http://www.homestart-havant.org.uk/ for details.
We'll be working closely with Leslie, Kate and Angie over the next few months, so we'll keep you updated on everything we're doing as it happens, but, for now here are a couple of recipes for you to get your teeth into.

The muffins were SO good, Joel ate two on top of his lunch and is going home to make more tonight.

Pictures and soundclips from both interviews will follow shortly, but we'd like to say a big thak you to Juliette, Leslie, Kate and Angie for this morning's fun.

Thursday 9th February

Meet Buddy Storey. On twitter, he's @BuddyPortsmouth. We've been following the Buddy's adventures over the last couple of weeks through the 'AboutMyArea Portsmouth' facebook page, and were overjoyed when he came in to visit us.
Everyday, Buddy's owner, Haley, takes him out for a walk and takes his picture by a well known local landmark. The masses then clamour their way to the facebook page to guess where he is and win a prize. We loved this so much we even made a song for him. You'll have to tune in to hear it. We'll be playing it until Friday 17 Feb. From Monday 20th Feb, we'll be stalking Roger The Otter.
