Toby Daish - 19yrs - Student
Toby is a busy guy. He's a first year economics student at Portsmouth University, he works in The Sir Hector and helps Eloise run the drama club at the community centre. He lives with Derek, Conway Street's resident Private Detective. Toby comes from a wealthy background and was forced into studying economics by his parents, but secretly he would love to be an actor and read English literature at University....But this isn't the only secret Toby is keeping.......
Derek Brown - 48yrs - Private Investigator
Divorced, ex-policeman Derek spends his days as a Private Investigator, digging up dirt on the good, the bad and the ugly. He rents out the rooms in his house to students as he likes to think he lives a similar lifestyle, he likes a good drink, a good curry and the company of beautiful women. He considers himself a bit of a ladies man, although so far he's not been too successful.....
Pete Dowsett - 63yrs - Postman
Pete is the last of the 'jobs for life' generation. Portsmouth born & bred he has walked the streets delivering mail since he was a lad, but now he's reaching retirement age he's decided that maybe it's time to start embarking on all the other things he'd like to do....like visiting Graceland. Pete is a huge Elvis fan and promised himself upon retirement this is where he would reward himself with a visit.
Ali Dowsett - 18yrs - Shop Worker & Single Mum
Ali is Pete's Granddaughter and she lives with him on Conway Street with her daughter Leona. As a very young Mum things haven't always been easy, but she's a fighter and works hard for herself and her daughter. She works in the local shop in the afternoons and at the weekend, but has aspirations to run her own corset making business and is even more encouraged to do so when a woman commissions her to make 6 for her dance troupe after seeing her designs at 'Knit & Spit'
Lil Trevaskis - 60yrs - Barmaid
Lovely Lil was a bit of a 'Dockyard Dolly' in her day, she loves the glitz, the glamour and a good old gossip. She lives and works in The Sir Hector with Rose and has done so her whole life. But her world is rocked when secrets about who she really is get unearthed at her 60th birthday party. She finds solace in a blossoming romance with Pete, but employs Derek and his detective skills to help her discover who she really is......Will she ever know? Will it change her relationships with people in the street?
Rose Parry - 74yrs - Landlady at The Sir Hector
There's nowt too exciting about Rose....or is there? Rose has always lived and worked in The Sir Hector, even at 74 she is still lugging crates and pulling pints. Was it getting pregnant at 14 that dashed her hopes of Chorusline fame and confined her to the pub or the loss of the love of her life? Fiercely loyal and protective of her friends and family, although a pensioner you don't mess with Rose.
Irene Burrell - 80yrs - Matriach of Conway Street
Age is only a number to Irene, she is heavily involved in street life and offers help or advice whenever she can. Still topping up her pension by taking in the streets ironing (for a fee, of course) and imparting her words of wisdom on the corsetting industry to Ali, Irene very rarely has a moment to herself, which is secretly how she likes it. Irene and Rose have been friends for over 60years but when some secrets are unearthed their friendship is brought into question....is it strong enough to survive?
Sarah Bailey - 41yrs - Mother and Student Mental Health Nurse
Born and brought up on Conway Street, Sarah married and moved out of the city, living the life of luxury with husband Simon and her children Eloise and Jack. That was until his risk taking during the recession landed them back where she started. But rather than wallow Sarah seized the opportunity to rule the roost for a while and get her family back on track. She's stronger than she looks......
Simon Bailey - 44yrs - Manager of The Community Centre
Simon has always been a risk taker, but his last venture was a risk too far. After making a name for himself in the health & fitness business he became a victim of the recession, losing it all and plunging his family back down the social ladder. Down but never out Simon's arrogance doesn't endear him to people straightaway, but after being forced to take the managers job at the Community Centre and Derek finding out some very interesting information on a former business partner, things start to look up.........
Eloise Bailey - 15yrs - Student
Distraught at having to leave her posh private school, her friends and her rather responsibilty free life, Eloise immediately hates Conway Street. Spoilt, bratty and a Daddy's girl, Eloise hates everything until she stumbles across Toby.... Being the girl that she is, she orchestrates a way to get close to him by insisting her father sets up a drama club at the community centre. Her dreams of a Romeo & Juliet style romance are thwarted however when after pushing things a little too far with Toby she learns that age isn't the only reason they can't be together.....
Jack Bailey - 12yrs - Student
Jack is a good kid. He loves his family and football, he's clever but not patronising with it and he secretly loves living on Conway Street. Jack is an easy going boy with a good heart, but his old school and his old life meant he was busy all the time and pressures were high, living on Conway Street allows him a freedom he has never really known and although he doesn't always get it right, he is revelling in it. A little short on friends at the moment, he bonds with Andrej over football and likes to spend time talking history with Irene.
Julie Novak - 34yrs - Naval Officer
A woman in a mans world. Julie has worked hard to get ahead in the Navy and is proud of it. Success is what she strives for even at the risk of her marriage sometimes. But when she finds out that she isn't being posted away to sea she realises even though she and Andrej conflict sometimes, she is lucky to have him and maybe their marriage is worth the work.......
Andrej Novak - 36yrs - Web Developer
Andrej dreams of being a Dad, but Julie isn't as keen. No matter how many deals they make and plans they have, he never quite manages to convince her. Andrej is a loyal husband and works hard at his own business, he is successful in his own right but Julie still wears the trousers....Things between them improve, but will something come along to rock the boat........
Luzolo - 27yrs - Political Refugee
For the safety of herself and her unborn baby Luzolo left the Congo and found herself on Conway Street. A little lost at first she soon finds her feet on the street thanks to Andrej. They bond over babies, much to Julie's initial annoyance, but things settle down when she helps him out with his business as it builds from strength to strength. A teacher back in the Congo, Luzolo is clever and her English is good, her cooking however isn't. Her baby is nearly due, but will her activist husband make it over in time....?
